I have to admit that I only watched the first few episodes of this season’s American Idol. Funny thing is this was enough for me to see about half of the top 10 contestants, La’Porsha Renea, Mackenzie Bourg, Tristan McIntosh, Olivia Rox and Sonika Vaid. At least these are the ones that I remember.
Without watching any subsequent episodes I was able to judge that Sonika Vaid would go home on Thursday, March 24 simply by reading online recaps. You can read Sonika Vaid’s bio and find out more about her.
From what I gather online it seems that La’Porsha and Trent are the top 2 contestants at this point. La’Porsha was seen as a front runner from the beginning. Just like seasons past the judges did their best to push as many girls to the top as they could. And yet, there were 3 guys and 2 girls in the top 5 and now there’s only one girl left with the three remaining guys. As for me, Mackenzie is my favorite, mostly because I saw him on The Voice and I found him likable. I know this has nothing to do with singing but if he weren’t a good singer he would not have made it this far or through the blind auditions on the Voice. I also noticed that Mackenzie seems to be getting along really well with fellow contestant Dalton Rapattoni. I went through Dalton’s twitter and I found that he is really funny so he might be growing on me as well. In any case, I’m glad that he made it to the top 4.
I kind of liked Sonika but I had a sense that she would not make it all the way. I read good things about Trent Harmon.
The interesting thing I discovered while going through these kids profiles is that several of them auditioned or tried to auditioned for The Voice. A few years ago it was the other way around. First you would audition for Idol, get rejected and then try your luck with The Voice. Now it’s first try to get on the Voice, get rejected or eliminated and then try to make it on Idol. How the mighty has fallen…
The top 4 from season 11 – A big season for idol from which they got a mega hit thanks in large part to the US women’s gymnastics team winning the gold in the Olympics
